Our Mission
The mission statement of The MAC Foundation is to create opportunities for children and young adults to be influenced through sports, the arts and extra curricular activities—keeping their minds and bodies focused on positive alternatives to the temptations of life. In addition, we would like to implement a free counseling service to empower them to cope with tragic events including but not limited to, death, divorce and child abandonment. Hello Dear Friends-- August 22, 2010
It is amazing how time flies, another year has passed and we are hot on the heels of Fall. The different "seasons of life" are not always easy, but rather define how we move forward. The past few years have been challenging dealing with aging parents with the focus being on family rather than hosting/planning a large event for charities. This shift of priorities continues to change, however, one thing remains the same. We will miss Mac always and do not want him to be forgotten. Thank you JL Mann 2011 Student Body for remembering. JL Mann High School 2011 Spirit Week Kick Off
Friday, September 2, 2011
The Mac Foundation has been named as one of the primary beneficiaries of the JL Mann High School 2011 Spirit Week Competition along with Arizona's Children's Charities. This annual, week long event benefiting local charities will begin on Friday, September 2nd and will culminate the following Friday, September 9th @ halftime of the football game against their rival, Greenville High School. This tradition of the student bodies organizing their manpower and resources for the community is both inspiring and contagious as they passionately work for 7 days to earn the bragging rights of "Spirit Week" champions. The beauty is that there truly are no "losers"!
Sadly, 2011 will mark the 5th year anniversary of Mac's passing. His classmates will begin their senior year with other friends and peers following close behind. The reality is emotionally exhausting but how amazing that the student body has chosen to remember their friend and our legacy to Mac's memory in giving back to the children of Greenville County. Our proceeds will be divided among Pendleton Place, Carolina Elite Soccer Academy and Greenville Family Partnership. All three charities share aspects of our mission statement--Pendleton Place in providing a safe and loving environment for abused children--Greenville Family Partnership in educating children and parents on the dangers of drugs and importance of good decision making--Carolina Elite Soccer Academy in supporting the role of physical exercise and team participation for the underprivileged, special needs and youth @ large. In addition, we will be combining efforts with Arizona's Children's Charities in funding "Extra Mann Power", a new program that is being implemented this year at the high school. Extra Mann Power provides bus transportation for any J. L. Mann student who would like to stay after school for extra academic help. Teachers may assign after school tutoring to any student who needs to make up work, re-take a test, have a quiet hour to study, receive one-on-one tutoring, or use Media Center resources to complete assignments. This program was begun by J. L. Mann staff in response to a desire to provide support for students to successfully reach graduation and in response to an awareness that many students could not take advantage of after school tutoring because they could not provide their own transportation home.
The week long calendar is loaded with all sorts of different activities. From eating at your favorite restaurant to dodge ball tournaments--there is something for everyone! Several events scheduled offer pre-registration and opportunities for students and families to participate together. Specifically, there are three over Labor Day Weekend that will be held at Carolina Elite Soccer Academy fields located on Anderson Ridge Road in Greer. Special thanks to Pearse Tormey and his staff for hosting and helping to organize these activities. Saturday, September 3rd: 5K Run @ CESA Soccer Fields Beginning at 9:30

Big kudos to the Student Body Committee comprised of Leslie Pitts, Connor Matthews, Emily Sanders, Ellen Stahlman, Jessica Meggs and advisor, Joshua Eversole who have worked all summer long meeting, planning and learning the art of compromise. Excellent job!
Finally, the slogan for this year is to Remember 19, Together We are One. I encourage and challenge the community to unify together in making a positive impact on those who are with us and to remember the "Spirit" of those who are not.
God Bless--
Vickie
